2012 Free Agency: John Mitchell Heads To Colorado On A Two-Year Deal

Former New York Rangers forward, John Mitchell, has signed a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Mitchell had an impressive start to his time on Broadway, after he was called up about 20 games into the season. Both Mitchell and Hagelin were recalled, and didn't miss a beat.

However, later on in the season, and heading into the playoffs, Mitchell began to struggled quite a bit. It's almost as if Mitchell began fighting the puck, and was victim of multiple turnovers which John Tortorella wasn't a big fan of. All negatives aside, Mitchell was a solid bottom-six player, who deployed the Rangers philosophy of an aggressive forecheck.

In 63 games with the New York Rangers this season, Mitchell posted a total of five goals, 11 assists, for 16 total points.

With Mitchell now gone, the Rangers have expressed interest in Ottawa Senators forward, Jesse Winchester, according to Bruce Garrioch. The Rangers will likely add one or two bottom-six forward in order to replace Mitchell, and possibly Brandon Prust.
