2012 Top 25 Under 25: Number 21 - Scott Stajcer

Beyond Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers haven't been too deep between the pipes, but they do have some decent young talent in the pipelines. In 2009, the New York Rangers selected 6-foot-2 Scott Stajcer out of Owen Sound in the fifth-round. In his rookie season with the Owen Sound Attack, Stajcer finished with a record of 15-20, in addition to three playoff games, where he posted an 0-3 record. Over the last two seasons, Stajcer has upped his play and was able to acquire the starting job with the Attack. However, he still has some inconsistencies in his game, that prevent him from taking that extra step.

Stajcer appears at number 21 on our list this year, mainly because he will be getting some time with the Connecticut Whale this season. After the departure of Chad Johnson this offseason, and Stajcer finishing out his four years in major-junior, he will likely be fighting for the starting job alongside Cam Talbot down in Connecticut. At this point in his career, and given the circumstances, Stajcer finally has the opportunity to prove that he can take that extra step, and prove his worth at the professional level. Beforehand, with both Talbot and Johnson in the system during his entire junior career, Stacjer didn't have the type of opportunity he now has.

According to Hockey's Future, Stajcer has the size and skill to eventually evolve into an NHL netminer, but he has to hammer out the inconsistencies in his game. With the start of his professional career on the horizon, who knows what Stajcer can accomplish?
