Game #2: New York Rangers vs Ottawa Senators Open Thread
The Rangers are back in action tonight, and they’ll be heading into Canada to take on the Ottawa Senators.
Tonight’s game will be Ottawa’s home opener, as they played their first game on the road in Toronto on Wednesday night, and fell 5-3 to the Maple Leafs. While the Senators will look to send their fans home happy, the Blueshirts are putting their undefeated season on the line. An offensive explosion guided them to a 6-4 victory over the Winnipeg Jets two nights ago, and they’ll look to keep the ball rolling in the Canadian capital tonight.
The twelve players skating for the Rangers are expected to be the same, but the defensive pairs have been shuffled a bit. Marc Staal will still be skating to Tony DeAngelo’s left, but Jacob Trouba will be skating alongside Libor Hajek, while Adam Fox and Brady Skjei have been paired up.
Player to Watch: Alexandar Georgiev
Making his first start of the season, Georgiev will need to be on his toes a bit more than he’s been since joining the Rangers. After wrestling the backup job away from Ondrej Pavelec midway through the 2017-18 campaign, Georgiev hasn’t had any competition as Henrik Lundqvist’s backup. That meant that even a couple of bad performances in a row would just mean more time in practice with Benoit Allaire rather than the risk of a demotion back to AHL Hartford. With Igor Shesterkin lurking in the weeds, waiting to pounce on an opprotunity at the NHL level, Georgiev will need to be at his best throughout the season if he wants to spend the entirety of it on Broadway, and that starts tonight in Ottawa.
Enjoy the game!
