The New York Rangers and Calgary Flames completed the first draft day trade as the Blueshirts traded 22nd and 72nd overall to Calgary for the 19th overall pick.

With the 19th overall pick the Rangers selected defender Braden Schneider from the Brandon Wheat Kings out of the WHL.
I'm mystified by the Rangers trading up for Braden Schneider. It's not a bad pick, in a vacuum, in this spot.

It's a very safe pick. Schneider is going to play. He's big, physical, plays with an edge, great in the defensive zone. Projects as a No. 4/5 in the NHL.
