Game #49: Detroit Red Wings vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After a week and a half off for All-Star weekend in St. Louis, the Rangers are back in action tonight. The Blueshirts lost their final game prior to the break against the Islanders, and they’ll look to get back on track over the next two nights with a home and home with the Detroit Red Wings. These two Original Six foes will square off at Madison Square Garden tonight, followed by a meeting at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit tomorrow evening.

After a less than stellar first half, David Quinn’s squad currently finds itself eleven points out of the final Wild Card playoff spot currently occupied by Carolina. If the team wants to kickstart a second half playoff push, earning four points from these next two games will go a long way towards making their postseason dream into a reality.

Player to Watch: Tony DeAngelo

After a breakout first half that saw DeAngelo tally 37 points in 48 games, the New Jersey native will look to build on his strong performance before heading towards another summer of restricted free agency. With rumors swirling that he could be the odd man out on New York’s blue line in the near future, DeAngelo will need to carry over his first half performance in order to ensure his spot on Broadway beyond this season.

Enjoy the game!
