Rangers have a chance to pick first overall
Sorry about all of this Detroit
If you have a Detroit Red Wings fan in your life, you might want to check in on them.
The 2020 NHL Draft Lottery has unleashed chaos upon the world of hockey. One of the (losing) teams that will be playing in the upcoming play-in stage before the 2020 NHL Playoffs will be picking first overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Those teams all have equal odds in Phase 2 of the Draft Lottery, which will take place before the playoffs begin.

The breakdown:
- TBD Play-in team
- Los Angeles Kings
- Ottawa Senators
- Detroit Red Wings
- Ottawa Senators
- Anaheim Ducks
- New Jersey Devils
- Buffalo Sabres
So, per Dom Luszczyszyn’s model, the Rangers have a 7.2 percent chance of picking first overall — which also factors in play-in odds. It’s also important to note that the scenario where the Rangers could win the Cup and pick first overall is officially dead. So, there’s that.
If, for whatever reason, the play-in cannot be completed....the remaining bottom 8 teams will have a one-in-eight shot at the top selection
