2021 Draft Open Thread: Day 2
It certainly was an interesting opening day of the draft for the Rangers as they shocked everyone with a mid-afternoon trade of Pavel Buchnevich. The trade brought some unfavorable views, and rightfully so as the Rangers sent the 26-year old to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Sammy Blais and a 2022 2nd-round draft pick.
Speculation was also running ramped for weeks about the Rangers 16th overall selection, and many believed they wouldn’t even make it to the podium on Friday night to make the pick. However, as GM Chris Drury stated during his media availability, the Rangers never came close to trading the pick and drafted Brennan Othmann out of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
Day two should hold more action on the draft front as the Rangers will make eight selections throughout the final six rounds of the draft.
