2021 NHL Draft Lottery Open Thread
The New York Rangers hold a 1% chance of winning the lottery this evening.
The 2021 NHL Draft Lottery will be held tonight to determine the official draft order, and will feature the 15 teams that did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, plus the newly added Seattle Kraken. Unlike last season’s special circumstances that led to the New York Rangers winning the number one selection, we’ll return to the normal lottery structure to determine this year’s winners.
The first drawing of the night will determine which team will be rewarded with the No. 1 overall selection, with the second drawing following shortly thereafter for the No. 2 selection. Follow both lottery drawings, the remaining 14 teams will be assigned slots 3-16 in reverse order of their regular season point totals.
An interesting wrinkle to this year’s lottery will be exclusion of the Arizona Coyotes after they violated the NHL’s Combine Testing Policy and were forced to forfeit their first-round selection. As per the NHL, the Coyotes pick will remain in the lottery odds but should their combination be selected in either drawing, they will immediately re-draw.
