New York Rangers Announce Six Alternate Captains for Upcoming Season
The Rangers’ leadership group was announced by the team this morning
Another day means another announcement from the New York Rangers. This morning the team announced the leadership group for the upcoming season and after three seasons without a captain the Blueshirts have decided...well, what’s the harm in one more? This season six(!) different players will don the “A” as alternate captains.
OFFICIAL: The six alternate captains for #NYR will be Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Strome and Barclay Goodrow.

Essentially, if you are over the age of 23 you are an alternate captain for the New York Rangers this season. Chris Kreider and the freshly extended Mika Zibanejad will once again carry the A on their chest as they have for the past couple of seasons with Jacob Trouba, Artemi Panarin, Ryan Strome, and Barclay Goodrow donning the letter for the first time in their Rangers careers. Also, as per Vince Mercogliano don’t expect the team to name a captain anytime soon.
I'm being told the decision has been made not to name a captain at this time. #NYR is going with six alternates for now.

This is currently the longest stretch of time, roughly 4 and a half seasons, that the Rangers have gone without naming a definitive captain because this team cannot make anything easy.
