Game #46: New York Rangers vs New York Islanders Open Thread
After sweeping a four game set against the New Jersey Devils last week, the Rangers will look to continue their playoff push with a critical game in Uniondale against the New York Islanders. In spite of earning eight standings points due to their four game sweep, the Blueshirts failed to gained ground on the Boston Bruins in the race for the 4th and final playoff spot in the MassMutual East Division. With Boston winning four consecutive games on their own, two of which came against the Islanders, time is running out for the Blueshirts.
However, the Islanders have emerged as a potential longshot candidate for David Quinn’s squad to catch in the standings. With three games remaining (including tonight’s meeting) against the Islanders, the Blueshirts could leapfrog the Islanders with a sweep of those three games and some outside help. However, a sweep only starts with a victory tonight.
Player to Watch: Anthony Bitetto
In spite of a rough game that saw the Long Island native get benched during the third period on Sunday, Bitetto has earned another crack at the lineup tonight. With younger players like Libor Hajek, Tarmo Reunanen, and Zac Jones lurking, Bitetto will have to step up his game in order to keep a hold on his lineup spot. Keep an eye on him tonight as the Rangers look to extend their winning streak to five.
Enjoy the game!
