A Few Wins Shouldn’t Make You, or Chris Drury, Trust This Team and Avoid a Sell-Off

It's a matter of trust when it comes to this core. And we've already seen them quit when things got hard. A few wins here and there doesn't change that, or change the right thing to do with this season: sell.

On the Holiday Hangover episode of the podcast a few weeks ago, Eric and I got to talking about whether or not the New York Rangers were going to be sellers. Or, at the very least, what the mindset would be when the organization got to the deadline. In the commentary, I said the following:

At the end of the day, every time you are at the tipping point of a season – whether you're a really good team like the Rangers were last year, or a really shitty team like the Rangers are right now – when you get to the trade deadline you need to make a decision: Are you in or are you out?
And it's a risk, right?
And I think what Chris Drury – and what you as the fans that I'm talking to specifically here – needs to weigh out is "do I want my team to decide that it's worth the risk of not moving on from sellable players?"

The Rangers were always going to be at an inflection point this coming summer. Whether the year ended with a parade down the Canyon of Heroes or in a fiery mess like we see now, or even something in between, changes were always a coming.

Today the Rangers are – I believe – firmly in the camp of a seller.
