Adam Edström Lars-Erik Sjoberg Winner

Every year, the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award is given to the top rookie in Rangers training camp as voted on by the media. This year, the honor was given to “rookie” forward Adam Edström.

The air quotes are a result of the fact that the 23-year old already has eleven NHL games under his belt which include a pair of goals. However, make no mistake about it, Edström earned this honor. Three goals in the preseason on top of being one of the clear standouts in the Rangers rookie camp, Edström not only rightfully deserves the acknowledgement, but has earned himself an opening night roster spot as he is expected to start the season on the fourth line.

Here’s Edström picking up his third preseason goal against the Devils

While he may not have the personality or status that Matt Rempe has established for himself this early in his career, Edström has the size and brings a similar skill set to this Rangers team. With a bit of a more all-around edge to his game, Edström has the potential to make for a very exciting fourth line alongside Rempe and veteran Sam Carrick to start the season. Congrats to Adam Edström on a well-deserved award!
