Antti Raanta named NHL’s second star of the week
He gave up one goal in three starts. That’s very good.
Antti Raanta started three games this past week. He gave up one goal. That’s what most people would consider, well, “pretty good,” probably, and the NHL is among that group, as they’ve named him the league’s second star of the week.

That one goal against came in a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets. He’s currently riding a shutout streak of 151:04, which isn’t bad at all.
In fact, it’s the longest shutout streak for a New York Rangers goalie in recent history. Via the Elias Sports Bureau:
Raanta is the first Rangers goaltender to produce a shutout in each of two consecutive team games in one season since March 17-19, 2003, when Mike Dunham blanked the Islanders and Sabres. Henrik Lundqvist has never done that in regular-season play, though he did have back-to-back shutouts in Games 6 and 7 of the Rangers' first-round playoff series against the Capitals in 2013.
It’s hard to believe Henrik Lundqvist has never had back-to-back shutouts in the regular season. And don’t get me wrong; it’s hard to believe that because he’s just been so extraordinarily friggin’ good for the Rangers over the course of the past 12 seasons. Over 700 games, even.
But Raanta is, evidently, feeling it right now. And how awesome is it to have two good goalies? Very.
