Assistant Coaches Mike Kelly and Jim Midgley Relieved of Duties
The New York Rangers have made some additional changes to their coaching staff, with news today coming from Larry Brooks that Mike Kelly and Jim Midgley will no longer remain in the organization.
Kelly's departure make sense considering his relationship with Gerard Gallant which includes working with him in the QMJHL, working as his assistant with the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Team Canada at the World Championships before coming to the New York Rangers.
The Rangers were Midgley's 2nd NHL job, as he previously worked as a scout for the Philadelphia Flyers. He also spent time as a coach for several years in the QMJHL, and was an assistant for Team Canada at the Women's World Championship in 2020-21.
Gord Murphy remains in the organization, and he's been around since 2019 where he started as the Associate Head Coach of the Hartford Wolf Pack. He's spent the last two seasons as an assistant on the bench for Gallant, something he also did in Columbus and Florida.
Benoit Allaire also remains in the organization, something that will all but continue until he's had enough with hockey, or the Rangers, altogether.
