Breaking News: New York Rangers Sign Pavel Buchnevich to Entry-Level Contract
The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with Pavel Buchnevich on an entry-level contract.
Pavel Buchnevich is inbound.
The New York Rangers announced this afternoon that they have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with Pavel Buchnevich, a third-round draft pick of the Rangers in 2013. Buchnevich is considered one of the Rangers most highly touted prospects, and is expected to train in the United States this summer in anticipation of his first season in the NHL. During his five year stay in the KHL, Buchnevich has been compared to the likes of Vladimir Tarasenko and Evgeny Kuznetsov in terms of raw skill, but his numbers project him on the lower end of that spectrum.
With the Rangers expected to go through another young movement, there is no doubt that Buchnevich will compete for a roster spot come September. However, tempering expectations will be key with such a young player, especially one who will be getting his first taste of hockey in North America. There will probably be an adjustment period in the early going, so it's important to be patient with Buchnevich.
With Buchnevich officially New York bound, the Rangers can now turn their attention to more glaring issues such as their RFA's, Keith Yandle, and filling out the rest of their roster.
This move was certainly a step in the right direction.
