Brennan Othmann "Excited" to Return to Action for Wolf Pack as NHL Opportunity Looms
The 16th overall pick in 2021 returned to game action for the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday after a 10 week injury absence. The simultaneous collapse of the Rangers over that time might finally open the door to the NHL for Othmann.
It was a long two months for Brennan Othmann.
On October 19th, the second-year forward suffered an upper-body injury as the Wolf Pack hosted the Bridgeport Islanders. Othmann went down hard during a net-front scrum and did not return to the game. A week later, Wolf Pack head coach Grant Potulny revealed that Othmann would miss roughly 4-6 weeks.
The recovery took longer than originally expected, and Othmann missed nearly ten weeks. However, on Friday, the 16th overall draft pick by the Rangers in 2021 returned to game action.
Othmann certainly didn't play like someone who missed over two months of action in his first game back. Potulny skated Othmann on the top line with Bo Groulx and Alex Belzile. Othmann tallied an assist on Groulx's first period goal, recorded three shots on goal, and was +1 in the contest.
"I felt good [being back on the ice]," Othmann told me after Friday's contest, a 5-2 loss to Springfield. "We put in a lot of work over the last two months…not just myself, but training staff, development staff, and skills coaches. Our whole organization put in a lot of work to try to get me back as fast as possible."
"I’m just excited to play with these guys again, lace ‘em up, and try to help this team out."
