Can the Rangers Acquire Three First Round Draft Picks at the 2025 Trade Deadline?
From Will Borgen’s rising trade value to Reilly Smith’s resurgence and Ryan Lindgren’s defensive grit, the Rangers have plenty of assets to move before the trade deadline. How many of these could fetch them a first round draft pick?
The Rangers are going to be in a truly fascinating position as we get closer and closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. Just slightly past the official midway point of the season, the Rangers have won consecutive games for the first time in nearly two months. While they have suffered a fall from grace unlike any other and have looked truly abysmal more nights than not, a playoff position is still reasonably in reach. That, mixed with how the team is seemingly starting to come back together, playing hard and shaking out of individual slumps, there’s reason to believe they can remain competitive in the coming months.
We talked in our recent roundtable about the Rangers options this trade deadline. They should be sellers, whether that means taking a conservative or full-sale approach remains to be seen, but if they continue to look like they did against New Jersey, Vegas, and even Colorado, perhaps it’s enough to convince Chris Drury and company to see what kind of strategic buying they can do.
Fact of the matter is, the Rangers should put some trust in their younger players, sell some assets, and finally go through a proper retooling that will set this franchise up for years to come. Part of that would include building through the draft. In doing so, with the current state of the rest of the league in mind, the Rangers could very well come out of this trade deadline with as many as three first round draft picks.
