the award goes to the player that best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice
While the 2020-21 regular season did not end the way that the Rangers were hoping for, there were moments and individual performances that will garner recognition come awards season and one such player getting that recognition is Chris Kreider. The Rangers announced today that Kreider is the team’s nominee for the King Clancy Trophy, the award that is given to the player that “best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice”.

The winner is selected by a special committee made up of senior NHL executives that votes based on a specific criteria that includes a “clear and measurable positive impact on the community” and a “commitment to a particular cause or community.” If Kreider is selected as the winner, not only will he bring home the trophy but the NHL will make a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choosing. We all know Kreider is a leader on the ice and it is nice to see his leadership off the ice get some recognition as well.
