Chris Kreider Signs Two-Year Deal, Avoids Arbitration

The Rangers avoided arbitration with Kreider on a two-year deal.

The New York Rangers and RFA Chris Kreider have avoided arbitration with a two-year deal worth $2.475-million per year.

Kreider scored 17 goals and added 20 assists for 37 points in 66 games with the Rangers. Returning to the playoffs after a late-season injury, Kreider provided a real jolt to the Rangers and notched 13 points in 15 playoff games.

The two sides narrowly avoided arbitration -- Kreider's hearing was scheduled for today -- which is a very good thing. Most of the time these deals do come down to final-hour negotiations, which happened here. The two sides reportedly broke off talks late last night.

Either way, this is a great deal for both Kreider and the Rangers. It leaves the Rangers with just about $6.3-million to sign Derick Brassard and John Moore, the only two RFAs left.
