Connecticut Whale vs. Providence Bruins: Connecticut Whale Continue To Roll With 6-3 Win Against Bruins

The Connecticut Whale continued their extended winning streak tonight, with a 6-3 win against the Providence Bruins. After falling behind early in the first period, the Whale were able to weather the storm and score five unanswered throughout the second period.

Just two minutes into the first period, Jamie Tardiff opened the scoring with a quick little wrist shot that beat Cam Talbot under the arm. The Whale were able to respond just five minutes later as Chris Kreider set up Ryan Bourque with a nice burst of speed down the wing. The Whale were able to head into the intermission tied, after a mediocre first period, which has been a theme for them the last couple of games.

The second produced four unanswered goals for the Whale, as Chad Kolarik was able to bang home a rebound just 1:30 into the second frame. Chris Kreider picked up his first professional goal, and first of the season on yet another rebound in front of Michael Hutchinson. Just over three minutes later, Logan Pyett sniped home a beautifully placed shot in the top left corner of the net.

Following the goal, Michael Hutchinson's night would come to an end, and Niklas Svedberg game in to relieve his goaltending partner. With the first shot against the cold goaltender Svedberg, Tommy Grant received a nice backdoor feed from Christian Thomas, and that made it 5-1 Whale halfway through the second period.

Jordan Caron would cut the lead to 6-2 shortly after with slap shot just off to the left side of the net on the power play. The Whale would go into the locker room with a commanding 5-2 lead with 20 more minutes to play. The third definitely didn't start out the way the Whale would have liked it to. They got into some major penalty trouble, which eventually lead to a power play just three minutes in the final frame, coming from Maxime Sauve.

Kris Newbury would close out the goal scoring on a shorthanded goal after Svedberg mishandled the puck in the corner, and the puck redirected right back out to Newbury.

After starting out the season 0-3-1, the Whale have fought back and have won their last three games. Their next game will be against the Albany Devils on November 2nd.
