Dylan Garand, Alex Belzile Named to 2025 AHL All-Star Classic
Garand and Belzile will represent the Wolf Pack at the AHL All-Star Classic on February 2-3, 2025.
The American Hockey League released the rosters for the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic on Wednesday afternoon. For the second straight year, the Wolf Pack will have two representatives at the game. Goaltender Dylan Garand and forward Alex Belzile will represent the Wolf Pack in Coachella Valley on February 2-3, 2025.
Garand is in the midst of his third - and thus far, best - pro season. The 22 year old netminder has posted a 10-4-2 record, a 2.17 GAA, and a .929 SV% on the campaign. His ten wins are tied for seventh in the AHL, with his 2.17 GAA and .929 SV% good for eighth and sixth, respectively.
Garand made Wolf Pack history this season by posting shutouts in back-to-back games. The 2020 4th-round pick blanked the Rockford IceHogs on December 6th, then shut out the Hershey Bears on December 11th. Garand became just the third Wolf Pack goaltender to post shutouts in back-to-back games since the 2004-05 season, joining Steve Valiquette (2004-05) and David LeNeveu (2013-14) in the exclusive club.
Garand was also honored by the American Hockey League as the Goaltender of the Month for December. During the month, Garand went 4-2-0 with a 1.35 GAA and a .958 SV%. Only once did Garand let up more than two goals in a game during December. Garand became the first Wolf Pack goaltender to earn Goaltender of the Month honors since Igor Shesterkin earned them in October 2019.
"He’s been really consistent all year. Dylan prepares for the moment. He doesn’t rise to it, he prepares for it, and it’s great to see him get rewarded," Wolf Pack head coach Grant Potulny told me after Garand's second shutout on December 11th.
Garand is the first Wolf Pack goaltender to be named to the AHL All-Star Classic since Shesterkin in 2020, though Shesterkin did not take part in the game after being recalled by the Rangers.
This will be Garand's first AHL All-Star Classic.
Belzile, meanwhile, has recorded ten goals and 21 assists on the campaign. He leads the Wolf Pack in assists, points (31), and plus/minus (+7), while his ten goals only trail linemate Bo Groulx, who has 11. Leaguewide, Belzile's 31 points are tied for eighth in the AHL, with his 21 assists tied for sixth.
Belzile is also one of three skaters in the AHL to record multiple hat tricks this season, alongside Chicago's Scott Morrow and Iowa's Brendan Gaunce.
Belzile notched three goals - plus the shootout winner - against Charlotte on November 19th. He followed up just over two weeks later, tallying three power play goals in Bridgeport on December 4th.
"If you took a snapshot of the first half of the year, I’d say that Belzile and Groulx have driven the offense," Potulny told me after the Wolf Pack's 7-0 win over Springfield on New Year's Eve. With Belzile sitting in first or second in all major categories among Wolf Pack players, it's hard to argue.
This will be Belzile's second AHL All-Star Classic - he previously represented Laval at the 2019 iteration.
