Robin Kovacs, Adam Chapie and Brenden Kotyk have been assigned to Hartford. And big Tim Gettinger and not-so-big Ty Ronning have been assigned to their junior teams. Ronning had five points in 12 games with the Wolf Pack last season and 53 points in 68 games with the Vancouver Giants of the WHL. Gettinger is back with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL where he scored 54 points in 62 games last season.
It’s a little surprising to see Kovacs get cut so early, but he did have a disappointing rookie season in the AHL last year. Hopefully the offseason overhaul in Hartford will help him find his game and give him a chance to get off of the fourth line. Kovacs was a third round pick, 62nd overall, in the 2015 Draft.
The Rangers play their second preseason game tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden against the visiting New Jersey Devils.
