Former Rangers well-represented on Team USA and Team Canada
There will plenty of familiar faces on the ice in Pyeongchang for Rangers fans.
It’s a pretty big bummer that we don’t get to see NHL talent at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, but the good news is that there will still be plenty of star power in the women’s tournament. And, as we have learned over the past two weeks, there will also be quite a few familiar faces on the ice to Rangers fans.
Former Rangers Matt Gilroy, Bobby Sanguinetti, and Chad Kolarik will all be playing for Team USA in February. Also Chris Bourque, who played with the Wolf Pack in the 2014-15 season, will also be sporting red, white, and blue in Korea.
Gilroy, 33, played 142 games with the Rangers after signing with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent back in April 2009. Last season Gilroy was the second-highest scoring defenseman in the KHL, behind Team Canada’s Brian Lee. Sanguinetti, of course, was the Blueshirts first round pick (21st overall) in 2006. But the New Jersey-born defender played just five of his 45 NHL games for the Rangers.

Team Canada will feature former Rangers prospect Christian Thomas (second round, 40th overall pick in 2010) and Wojtek Wolski. Wolski played 46 games in New York before being dealt to the Florida Panthers for Mike Vernace and a third round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. Maxim Lapierre, who joined the Rangers in training camp two seasons ago on a PTO, also made the Canadian roster.
