Game #13: New York Rangers vs Detroit Red Wings Open Thread
Tonight marks the one month mark of the 2024-25 campaign, and it will also mark the end of a season series between the Rangers and an Original Six rival. For the third and final time this season, the Rangers and Detroit Red Wings will square off.
Having already secured a season series victory by winning the first two meetings in October, Peter Laviolette's squad will be looking to complete the sweep tonight. Coming off the heels of Thursday's blowout loss against the Buffalo Sabres, the Blueshirts are in need of a bounce back effort before one loss turns to two, and a losing streak spirals from there. It'll be a cavalcade of former Rangers led by Patrick Kane looking to turn New York's struggles into a Detroit victory, so the current Blueshirts will look to deny their former teammates a measure of revenge tonight.
Player to Watch: Jonathan Quick
Rumors of an Igor Shesterkin contract extension swirled early on Thursday, and the Blueshirts' "franchise" netminder responded with a gastly showing by ceding five goals in 12 shots and getting pulled in the second period. Quick came on and stopped nine of ten shots that came his way, and has been given the nod against Detroit tonight while Shesterkin regroups from his atrocious performance last time out. Keep an eye on Quick as he looks to keep the small, vulcanized piece of rubber out of his net throughout the night.
Enjoy the game!
