Game #18: New York Rangers Calgary Flames Open Thread

It'll be a throwback to the old Patrick Division tonight at the Scotiabank Sattledome. The New York Rangers will participate in their third leg of a four game western swing, and Thursday's action has them squaring off against a former division rival in the Calgary Flames.

New York and Calgary were in the same division at one point? Indeed they were. Most of that time together was spent when the Flames were in Atlanta, starting from the Patrick Division's creation in time for the beginning of the 1974-75 campaign. The Flames would move from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980, and remained in the Patrick Division in 1980-81 before realignment placed Calgary in a more geographically sensible division following the season. That was before anybody playing in tonight's game was even born, so let's focus more on those guys.

Player to Watch: Sam Carrick

An under the radar signing over the off-season, Carrick was penciled in as New York's new fourth line center following Barclay Goodrow's departure. While one can only impress in a depth role so much, Carrick has done everything asked of him thus far in the early days of his time on Broadway. Keep an eye on Carrick tonight as he looks to bring more of the steady, defensive presence he's brought to the table as a Ranger.

Enjoy the game!
