Game #27: Chicago Blackhawks vs New York Rangers Open Thread
Following Sunday's offense-filled affair that the Blueshirts found themselves on the losing end of, they're back in the saddle to wrap up a back to back set. After playing the league's oldest team to one of the Original Six, Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks are in town and represent the latest opportunity for the Rangers to get back on track.
For all the chaos and poor play New York has endured as of late, Chicago makes Peter Laviolette's squad look like a well-oiled machine. Currently dead last in the NHL with a ghastly 8-17-2 record, the Blackhawks will be playing their second game of the Anders Sorensen era. Luke Richardson was relieved of his head coaching duties following a 4-2 home loss against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, and Chicago responded with a 4-2 home loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday in Sorensen's debut. The quality of competition doesn't get any lower than this for the Rangers, so if they can't squeak out a win tonight, they're in trouble.
Player to Watch: Filip Chytil
Chytil's injury scares have unfortunately become a semi-regular part of the Rangers viewing experience, but hopefully the young Czech star can keep himself out of danger against Chicago. Although they're lacking in terms of traditional talent an puck skill, the Blackhawks don't play a particularly bruising brand of hockey. Keep an eye on Chytil as he looks to help the Rangers get back in the win column and end this four game home stand on a high note.
Enjoy the game!
