Game #30: New York Rangers vs St. Louis Blues Open Thread
After yet another demoralizing defeat against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, the Rangers are back in action on Sunday with an opportunity to cleanse their palate in St. Louis. The Blueshirts kick off a three-game road trip against Pavel Buchnevich and the Blues tonight.
While NHL teams usually avoid playing the same goaltender on both ends of a back to back set of games, Peter Laviolette doesn't have that luxury tonight. Igor Shesterkin was yanked after ceding five goals less than midway though Saturday's game, and it ended up being Jonathan Quick who played the majority of the contest against his former team. Quick is likely to get the starting nod against St. Louis after shutting the door on the Kings after relieving Shesterkin. Regardless of who starts in goal, the Rangers will need to put forth a much better effort than they did against St. Louis in order to get back in the win column.
Player to Watch: Filip Chytil
When you fall behind 5-0 less than halfway through a game and go on to lose 5-1, it's hard to pick out any individual who played well. Chytil scored New York's lone goal against the Kings, and even that goal was somewhat of a flukey play. On the bright side for Chytil, they don't ask how you score goals, they just ask how many you score, and they all count the same on the scoreboard. The trio of Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, and Will Cuylle were the only Ranger forwards not to finish with a minus rating against Los Angeles, so keep an eye on Chytil tonight.
Enjoy the game!
