Game #57: New York Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Open Thread

Whether you like it or not, the Rangers are back in action.
Less than 24 hours after taking an 8-2 thumping from the Buffalo Sabres, the Blueshirts are set to take the ice once again for a Metropolitan Division clash against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh didn't fare much better in its return to action on Saturday, dropping an 8-3 game at home against the Washington Capitals. It's not too often you've got a matchup of teams who combine for a double digit negative goal differential in their previous outings, but that's the kind of season the 2024-25 campaign has been for both New York and Pittsburgh.
After ceding five goals in the first period and getting yanked by the time the second period began, Igor Shesterkin will be back in the starter's net this afternoon. Currently rocking a .903 save percentage entering play today, the Blueshirts' franchise goaltender will need to put forth a better effort than the one he gave on Saturday in order for the Rangers to have a chance in this one. Same goes for the rest of the team, but couple of saves here and there would be a big help.
Player to Watch: J.T. Miller
While the Rangers haven't picked up their pace since acquiring Miller in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks, Miller has done his part. With six points in six games since returning for a second stint on Broadway, the veteran forward has been a good fit in New York's top six forward group. Keep an eye on Miller today as the Rangers look to flush Saturday's horrific loss with a better showing on Sunday.
Enjoy the game!
