Game Thread: Rangers vs Kings
The New York Rangers square off against the Los Angeles Kings tonight as the two teams are set to meet each other for the final time. The Kings have struggled mightily this season (even worse than New York) as they’ve languished at the bottom of the standings. They have been one of the NHL’s worst teams and currently sit 30th overall in the standings. Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty have helped keep them slightly competitive but the once powerhouse team is dead-last in goals for and second to last in goal differential.
The Rangers season hasn’t gone much better though, as they only have two more wins than the Los Angeles Kings. After carving out a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils, the Rangers are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Look for Mika Zibanejad and Mats Zuccarello to continue their torrid pace as both forwards have been on fire lately. Zibanejad has 13 points in his last seven contests while Zuccarello is currently riding a seven-game point streak, his longest streak since 2015.
Tony DeAngelo is set to return to the lineup while Cody McLeod will take his turn in the press box. The Rangers will try going with seven defenders again.
Rangers going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen tonight against the Kings. Tony DeAngelo goes back in, Cody McLeod sits. “I just think it’s our best lineup tonight,” David Quinn said.
