Wolf Pack sign defenseman Mason Geertsen
Hartford add some nasty to the lineup, sign Geertsen
The Hartford Wolf Pack have signed 6-foot-4 defenseman Mason Geertsman to an AHL contract. Geertsman participated in the New York Rangers training camp this season and appeared in one preseason game with the Rangers where he earned 2 PIM and put two shots on net.
Geerstman, 24, was selected 93rd overall in the 2013 draft by the Colorado Avalanche. The punishing defender played with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Vancouver Giants in the WHL before establishing himself in the AHL over the last four seasons. Geertsen has 217 games of AHL experience and eclipsed 100 penalty minutes in each of the last two seasons with the San Antonio Rampage and the Colorado Eagles. Last year, his 138 PIM was the second-highest total among AHL defensemen.
Starters for Wolf Pack at Bridgeport: Joey Keane, Mason Geertsen on defense, Phil DiGiuseppe/Steven Fogarty/Ryan Gropp up front, Adam Huska in net.

With Geertsen added to the picture, the Wolf Pack have no shortage of options on the blue line. Geertsen has been on the starting defensive pair for Hartford in their last two preseason games with Joey Keane.
