Lundqvist is part of a class that also includes Mike Vernon, Tom Barrasso, Pierre Turgeon, Caroline Ouellette, Pierre Lacroix, and Ken Hitchcock which will be formally inducted in November. This year's class marks the most goalies inducted into the Hall of Fame in one go since 1963.
The New York Rangers goaltender retired earlier than he'd have liked due to a heart condition but had quite an impressive resume.
Some of his accolades include:
- 459 wins
- 64 shutouts
- 2006 Olympic Gold Medal
- 2014 Olympic Silver Medal
- 2017 World Championship Gold
- 2012-13 Vezina Trophy Winner
- 2011-12 Hart Trophy Finalist
- Nine-Time Rangers Team MVP
- Six Consecutive Game 7 Victories
- Only goaltender in NHL history to record 30 wins in each of his first seven seasons
- First NHL goaltender to start his career with 11 straight, 20-win seasons
Congratulations to Henrik, this honor is well deserved. Stay tuned for more Henrik Lundqvist related content as his formal induction gets closer.
