Henrik Lundqvist’s 60th shutout further cements his legacy
He’s 17th all time; he’s second among active players, and more.
Henrik Lundqvist has started 693 games in the NHL. As of the Rangers’ 5-0 win over the Blues, he has not allowed a single goal for 60 of them.
He has a shutout in 8.7% of the games he’s ever played at the highest level. You could say that’s good, and you’d be right. Lundqvist is really, really good.
Via the Elias Sports Bureau, as a matter of fact, he’s one of the best ever to come from outside of North America:
Lundqvist, a native of Sweden, moves past Evgeni Nabokov (59 shutouts) and now stands alone in second place on the list of most career shutouts in the NHL by goaltenders born outside North America, behind Dominik Hasek with 81.
He’s second in shutouts when it comes to active players, too; only Roberto Luongo, who has played an additional 240 games, has more shutouts with 72. Next on the active list is Marc-Andre Fleury, and he’s only at 43. Lundqvist is currently 17th all time in career shutouts.
Lundqvist isn’t just dominating amongst the active players and foreign players departments, though: he’s dominating for the Rangers, period. Via Elias:
Lundqvist, who has spent his entire career with the Rangers, is only the fourth goaltender in the NHL's modern era (i.e., 1943-44 to date) to produce at least 60 shutouts for one team. The others: Martin Brodeur (Devils, 124), Terry Sawchuk (Red Wings, 85) and Tony Esposito (Blackhawks, 74).
No wonder he’s the king.
