If you want to lend a helping hand
I know that Jim gave me the weekend off but this post should be made. If you don't already know Brendan Burke--son of Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke, who shined light on the atrocities against homosexuality in the NHL--passed away in a tragic car accident yesterday night. Pension Plan Puppets is doing a fundraiser and if you would like to contribute click this link. Here is their story:
Last night I was at a game when I kept seeing Brendan Burke's name run across my twitter with condolences and mourning. In a rush I tried to get a hold of someone. Archimedies told me the sad news. I didn't know much of the details but I did think of something else quickly. I emailed PPP and asked if it would be possible for us to pick a charity that works to promote love and tolerance. Something that the Burke family and his team exuded when Brendan came out.
We did a lot of good for Haiti. And I think we can do a lot of good in the memory of Brendan.
After some clicking I decided the best organization would be PFLAG, Parents, Families, Friends of Lesbians And Gays. They are an important group that works with people who are dealing with someone they know who has decided to come out of the closet. They bridge the gap with seminars and group counsel to provide a support network. The goals of the organization are to create a society for everyone free of judgment based on sexual orientation.

At the links you can find plenty of information of how you can help as well as volunteering and support groups. There are also links to donate, which can be made in Brendan Burke's memory.
More than anything, remember it is your heart and words, not you money that helps the most. Brendan knew this and he often spoke on the importance of tolerance and accepting your peers. I applaud him for his bravery. And Brian and his family did a tremendous job raising a great son. They should be proud.
Thank you.
