Shesterkin, who is playing his first season of North American hockey with the Hartford Wolf Pack, posted a 5-1-0 record with a .942 save percentage, a 1.49 GAA, and 146 total saves in the month of October. His play has been integral to Hartford’s league-best 8-1-1 record to start the 2019-20 season. This is also Hartford’s best start to a season in 15 years, per the AHL’s release.
After allowing three goals in his AHL debut, Shesterkin allowed less than two goals in four consecutive starts, including a 36-save shutout on Oct. 18 against the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Russian goaltender’s .942 save percentage is the third-best in the AHL among goaltenders who have faced at least 150 shots.
Rounding out the AHL’s monthly award winners are Reid Boucher, who was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month and Lucas Elvenes, who brought home the CCHM/AHL Rookie of the Month. Note: because Shesterkin played in over 100 games in the KHL, he does not qualify as a rookie in the AHL this season.
