The official EA Sports NHL Twitter account sent out an 18-second teaser video today, and it featured a zoomed in shot of the Rangers logo on the Madison Square Garden ice. Following a slight pan over center ice logo, the camera quickly cuts to an unnamed Rangers’ player making a stopping pivot with the puck in the neutral zone. While it could be several players on the roster, one glaring clue hints at Artemiy Panarin potentially being the NHL 22 cover athlete.
There seems to be major emphasis on the CCM equipment that is shown as the player skates by, which falls right in line with the Panarin speculation making the rounds on social media. The last Ranger to appear on the cover was back in 1995 when Alexei Kovalev partially shared the spotlight with Kirk McLean of the Vancouver Canucks.
We’ll find out in just 48 hours where all the clues lead, but the stars seem aligned with a New York Ranger being featured on the cover in 2021-22.
