Jimmy Vesey Rumors: Rangers Are One Of The Favorites To Land Jimmy Vesey
Jimmy Vesey is set to become an unrestricted free agent when the calendar hits August 15th, and it appears as if the Rangers have a legitimate chance to land the Harvard star. According to a report from the Boston Herald, the New York Rangers will likely be one of three finalists, along with the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins.
Vesey has been a hot topic around the NHL after spurning the Nashville Predators, and setting his sights on free agency. Given the amount of talent, Vesey would instantly help a team’s forward group, and he would probably slot somewhere within the top-three lines.
Being that Vesey would be signing a two-year entry-level contract, the Rangers could potentially bring in a tremendously talented forward at a very low cost. Even though the Rangers have freed up a hefty amount of cap space with the Derick Brassard trade, adding more cost-controlled talent can only bode well moving forward.
In the event that the Rangers do actually land Vesey, it would also open up a ton of flexibility in terms of finding defensive help. The Rangers would have some added depth with Vesey’s addition, which would allow them to deal off a forward in order to bring in some help on the blue line.
Obviously the biggest name that fits the bill here is Rick Nash, who has been in rumors all summer long after the Rangers lost Keith Yandle. Monday is right around the corner, so we’ll find out soon enough where Vesey decides to call home.
