Jonathan Quick Signs One Year, $1.55M Extension with Rangers
Drury makes "Quick" work of settling the backup goaltender position for the 2025-26 season.

All the endless puns we could write here aside, Chris Drury wrapped up a question mark for next season a bit early. Jonathan Quick will return for another year at an AAV of $1.55 million to be Igor's backup.

You name a record, and when it comes to American-born NHL goaltenders, Jonathan Quick likely owns it. This year, he made history, reaching 400 wins. He is slowly climbing the list for most wins all time and will likely end this season passing Grant Fuhr and sitting thirteenth overall. At the end of next season, likely his last, he could reasonably be as high as eleventh. Sometimes it's hard to remember that we're all witnessing history in the making each time he takes the ice.
Ignoring all his accomplishments and accolades, it's also safe to say Quick has been excellent for the Blueshirts in the two years he's been on Broadway. His first year was markedly better, but I think that's understandable as the entire team was better. In 43 games that he started, Quick has 27 wins and a .904 SV%, which is more than an acceptable number from a backup goaltender.
Quick has embraced this new to him role, especially on the Rangers. There have been countless testimonies from teammates on how great of a teammate he's been, one instance sticking out of him bringing the recently injured Blake Wheeler's son to the family skate at MetLife Stadium before the Rangers' Stadium Series game to ensure he didn't miss out on the fun. This, along with his presence allowing the team to let Garand marinate and develop in the AHL, has been enough to melt many Rangers fans' icy cold hearts and has helped us forget about the 2014 Stanley Cup Final.
