K’Andre Miller Needs An Identity on This Rangers Team Before It's Too Late
K’Andre Miller, once a promising asset for the New York Rangers, is now at a crossroads. After a game-changing mistake in a loss against the Panthers, the focus turns to whether Miller can reclaim his spot as an elite two-way defenseman or if he needs to redefine his game.
In spite of the final score, the New York Rangers put forward one of the better efforts we've seen from them recently in Sunrise, FL against their recent Eastern Conference Final foes, the Florida Panthers.
It wasn't, however, one of the better efforts from K’Andre Miller, who was on the ice for the two goals against that turned a 3-3 game into another disappointing loss, 5-3. While the second of those may have been an empty netter (although you’re 6'5", get in front of the puck) it was the fourth goal that really struck a nerve with me, as I’m sure it did many of you.
Miller, who at his best in recent years was regarded by some as deserving Norris Trophy votes, got beaten cleanly off the rush by Jesper Boqvist. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Miller completely abandoned his guy and found himself in no man’s land as a shot from Adam Boqvist (yes, Jesper's brother) at the point set up a perfect rebound for Jesper, who was left all alone right at Igor Shesterkin’s doorstep.
This prompted the following tweet from me in which I wasn’t quite able to articulate my thoughts on Miller to their fullest extent given X’s character limits.
With that in mind, I wanted to take a deeper dive on Miller.
