Kerfoot Signs with the Avalanche
Free-agent center Alex Kerfoot has signed with the Colorado Avalanche, as first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger.
Told Joe Sakic did a great job selling Kerfoot on his fit with the Avs. With trades likely, his role could be significant in near future. https://t.co/WSylXhgqcv

The Rangers were reportedly a finalist for Kerfoot, according to the New York Post’s Larry Brooks.
Kerfoot, a 23-year-old center who was drafted by the Devils in 2012, is no devastating loss to the Rangers, but would have been a worthwhile addition. The 2017 top-ten Hobey Baker Finalist produced 45 points in 36 games for Harvard last season, and would have ranked 15th in my Rangers Prospect Rankings. In particular, he would have competed in training camp for the Rangers’ open bottom-six spot at center.
It is possible the Rangers make a move in the next few weeks to add competition at center. However, the Rangers, as currently constructed, will go into training camp with Lias Andersson and Boo Nieves competing for the final center spot. J.T. Miller presumably would serve as the contingency plan if neither prove ready.
