Kevin Shattenkirk officially shut down for season
Shattenkirk’s season is over and Alexandar Georgiev is sent back to Hartford.
Today the Rangers sent Alexandar Georgiev back to the Wolf Pack, which tells us that Henrik Lundqvist will be good for Wednesday’s game against the Washington Capitals. The Rangers also released news that defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk did not practice with the team today and that he won’t return to the lineup this season.

Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk did not practice today and will not return to the lineup this season.
Shattenkirk underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in January. He was recently skating with the team in practices, but suffered a setback in his recovery two weeks ago. The Rangers were hoping that the defenseman could get on the ice before the final game of the regular season, but it appears that common sense has finally ruled that out. With the playoffs out of the picture, there’s no reason to jeopardize Shattenkirk’s health and safety. Shutting him down probably should have happened a few weeks ago.
Needless to say the 2017-18 season was a disappointing start to Shattenkirk’s career in New York, but he deserves a great deal of praise for putting up 23 points in 46 games while skating on one leg for the first half of the season. He’s under contract through the next three seasons with a cap hit of $6.5 million.
