Matt Rempe Receives 8-Game Suspension for Hit on Stars’ Miro Heiskanen
As was expected given the fact that the league had offered him an in person hearing over the weekend, Matt Rempe has received a lengthy suspension for his hit on Miro Heiskanen Friday Night in Dallas. Through the reports of multiple sources, the suspension will be for eight games given the severity of the hit and the consideration that Rempe is now a repeat offender.
While a suspension of this magnitude was warranted all things considered, it does come as quite an unfortunate situation. Matt Rempe is an extremely likable person to root for and certainly brings a unique presence in his game. His efforts in the game in Dallas Friday Night were extremely noticeable and were making for one of the best performances of his young career. It's also on the frustrating side seeing as the league has decided him to be the player they make an example out of after years of many questionable calls going unpenalized, at least this seriously.
Nonetheless, this has to be the final warning for him. He needs to truly learn from this situation as every hit he throws from here on out is going to be viewed under a microscope. It's already getting to a point where you're unsure if you can even ice this player without him running the risk of getting tossed and putting the team at a disadvantage. Whether or not you believe it to be fair, Rempe could be running out of chances to prove capable of holding an NHL roster spot if he doesn't learn how to throw clean hits.
