The New York Rangers will be without Matt Rempe for the remainder of their California road trip, and potentially a little longer, after suffering an upper-body injury.

Rempe fought Tanner Jeannot during the Rangers 3-1 loss on Tuesday, and went down hard after losing his balance.

With Rempe out of the lineup, Brett Berard is expected to draw back in his place. Rempe hadn't been as effective lately for the Rangers, and found himself in the penalty box sometimes because of his own actions, and sometimes because of extra attention from the on-ice officials.

Berard has appeared in 28 games this season for the Rangers, and has posted a line of 4-4-8 while averaging 10:41 per game. Rempe up to this point had appeared in 36 games averaging 7:59 per game, and has a line of 2-3-5. The change could potentially result in some new line combinations, and Peter Laviolette will have more flexibility making a lineup with someone like Berard as opposed to Rempe who only would skate on the fourth line, and often very little in the third period.

The Rangers play on Friday at 10:00 p.m. against the Anaheim Ducks, Saturday at 10:30 in San Jose against the Sharks, and return home to Madison Square Garden to face the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday, April 2nd.
