Michael Grabner is a New York hat trick man
How many players have had hat tricks for the Islanders and Rangers? Not many.
Michael Grabner is in the midst of playing for his fourth NHL team. That’s a decent amount of movement for someone in his eighth season; the only home he’s really found has been in the five seasons he’s played with the New York Islanders.
Then again, the Rangers signed him to a two-year deal, and with five goals in nine games so far - even if that 29.4 shooting percentage is a little high - we’ll have to see where it goes, but the early returns are looking good.
Especially when he goes and scores a hat trick.
Through all of the movement in his career, he now has three of those - and one of them came during those five years with the Islanders.
Via the Elias Sports Bureau, that puts Grabner in a very unique club:
Grabner is only the second player to register regular-season hat tricks for both the Rangers and the Islanders, joining Ray Ferraro, who had two for the Islanders (both in 1991-92) and one for the Rangers (in 1995-96).
That just means Grabner is going to have to get another one for the Rangers - you know, to balance things out.
