Artemiy Panarin was scheduled to represent the Rangers, but an upper-body injury is going to prevent him from participating. Although it will be disappointing to not see Panarin do his thing in St. Louis, Kreider is a fine choice to replace him.
Kreider was likely selected because he’s a winger, otherwise Mika Zibanejad would have been a slam dunk choice. The Rangers’ alternate captain got off to a slow start of the season with six goals and 13 points in the first 25 games, and over the last 23 he’s scored 11 goals and added eight assists for 19 points. He currently sits fifth on the Rangers in points (37), and third in goal scoring (18).
Congratulations to Kreider, and here’s to hoping he enjoys the weekend as an All-Star for the first time.
