Lilley, 49, had been a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization since 2006-07, working his way up from scout to Director of Scouting, and most recently Director of Amateur Scouting. Internationally he also served as an Assistant Coach for Team USA’s U18 and U17 teams from 2003 to 2006.
As a player, Lilley played at Boston University and had an NHL career of 23 games with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He also spent time playing in the AHL, IHL, and overseas in the DEL.
Lilley is taking a vacant position previously held by Gordie Clark who held the role from 2007 to 2020. Clark was a Scout and Senior Advisor for the 2020-21 season, and is listed as a Professional Scout on the team’s website.
Lilley is the latest front office addition, and in the front office for scouting he joins Kevin Maxwell, Director of Professional Scouting, and Chris Morehouse, Director of North American Scouting. Nickolai Bobrov was the team’s Director of European Scouting before being let go, and so far his replacement has not been named.
There are likely a few more front office hires to be ironed out before the start of the season, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
