New York Rangers News: J.T. Miller Accepts His One-Year Qualifying Offer

The New York Rangers are in rapid fire mode today and also announced the signing of J.T. Miller

The New York Rangers sure know how to make headlines on slow news days, and they did so once again today. Just minutes after they announced the signing of Jesper Fast, the Rangers also announced that they had come to terms with J.T. Miller. Larry Brooks notes that Miller has accepted his qualifying offer which gives him a one-year deal that carries a $874,000 cap hit next season.

This is certainly wonderful work by Jeff Gorton as he was able to lock up Emerson Etem, Oscar Lindberg, Jesper Fast, and J.T. Miller all for under $1 million cap hits. After today's moves, the Rangers have approximately $7.5 million left with Derek Stepan being the lone restricted free agent left without a new contract.

Hopefully this is a sign of changing times for the Rangers as they have lined themselves up with a ton of cheap depth, which allows them to pay top talent like Stepan. This has been an excellent opening sequence for Jeff Gorton, and now we wait to see what he does with Stepan.

Thoughts?
