New York Rangers News: Rangers Agree To Terms With Emerson Etem

The New York Rangers are having a busy day today as they announced their second RFA signing of the afternoon. According to an official team release, the Rangers have come to terms on a new contract with forward Emerson Etem.

Etem was originally acquired from the Anaheim Ducks during the 2015 NHL Draft in exchange for Carl Hagelin and a 2nd-round draft pick (Ryan Gropp). During his stay in Anaheim, Etem was never really put in a position to succeed, and his uptempo style of play should fit in nicely with Alain Vigneault's system. Etem split time between the Anaheim Ducks and Norfolk Admirals last season, combining for 31 points in 67 regular season while being bounced back and forth between the two clubs.

With Etem officially on board, it appears as if the Rangers will attempt to lock up their remaining RFA's (Jesper Fast and J.T. Miller) before turning their full attention to Derek Stepan.

UPDATE: As Larry Brooks reports, Etem accepted his qualifying offer which gives him a one-year deal that carries a $850,500 cap hit next season. Another excellent value signing by Jeff Gorton.
