New York Rangers News: Rangers Bring Back Raphael Diaz

With Matt Hunwick departing for the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier in the afternoon, the New York Rangers have located some extra depth on the back end. According to an official team release, the Rangers have signed Raphael Diaz to one-year, $700,000 deal, which gives the Rangers a solid backup option on defense.

Diaz will begin his second stint with the Rangers after he was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks at the 2014 NHL Trade Deadline, and played four games with the Rangers on their run to the Stanley Cup Final. Diaz played 11 total regular season games with the Rangers in 2013-2014, where he totaled 1 goal and 1 assist during his stay. Last season, he played with the Calgary Flames where he appeared in 56 games, while putting up just 2 goals and 2 assists.

Assuming the Rangers don't move a defenseman, Diaz will slot in at the seventh spot, while Dylan McIlrath and Brady Skeji will start the year with the Hartford Wolfpack.
