New York Rangers News: Rangers Allowed To Use Compliance Buyout On Redden Before This Season
With a recent agreement between the National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association, teams will now be permitted to use a compliance buyout before Saturday's opening games.
The National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association have reached an agreement on an acceleration compliance buyout system. This tweak will now allow teams to use one of their two buyout windows before the start of the 2013 season. In the recent cases with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers they will now be allowed to use a buyout on Scott Gomez and Wade Redden right now.
Teams that use this accelerated system will still carry the full cap hit of the player for the duration of the 2013 season, but it will drop off completely before the start of next season.While there really is no real benefit here cap wise, it will still save owners money, as they will only be charged for one-third of the players overall salary.
Players bought out during this window will be come unrestricted free agents and are free to sign with any other team in the league. This will allow players to continue their careers without having to see out the season to prevent any sort of injury.
With that said, expect the Rangers to announce the buyout of Wade Redden here in the next couple of days. Even though there really is no difference between buying out Redden now, it's still one less thing to worry about later on.
