New York Rangers News: Rangers, Miller Agree To Two-Year Deal
With the dust beginning to settle after free agency, the New York Rangers have turned their attention to the restricted free agents. According to an official team release, the Rangers have agreed to terms with J.T. Miller on a two-year bridge deal. The terms of the contract were not immediately released by the team, but Larry Brooks reports Miller’s new deal will carry an AAV of $2.75 million.
Obviously the good news here is that the Rangers locked up Miller on a relatively cheap deal, but the bad news is that they are going to pay for it down the road. Rather than opting for a long-term deal, the Rangers chose the short-term route in order to keep the cap hit low.
While that is excellent news for the next two years, if Miller continues to trend upwards like he has been, the Rangers are going to be forking over a lot of cash after two years.
With Miller back on board, the Rangers now have approximately $9.8 million left in cap space to split between Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes, and Dylan McIlrath. All three currently have arbitration dates scheduled, with Dylan McIlrath coming up first on July 21.
